According to the BBC, the 16-room Angel Inn in Midhurst, Sussex, 55 miles southwest of London, which is said to be about 400 years old, burned down on Thursday. No casualties, according to the police.
The writer H.G. Wells, whose works include "The Invisible Man" and "The Battle of the Worlds," has stayed at the Grade II-listed hotel.
A total of 30 persons, including some refugees from Ukraine, were evacuated from the hotel.
