The Consumer Price Index shows that costs for hotels and restaurants have increased year over year in February 2023 by 8.9%, compared to an 8.5% increase in overall costs during the same period, according to Ireland's Central Statistics Office's most recent report on inflationary pressure and the cost of living.
This increase pales in comparison to the significant increases in housing, electricity, gas, and other fuels (26%), food, and non-alcoholic beverages (13.1%), and housing (which grew by 8%). According to the CSO, higher prices for alcoholic beverages and food consumed in establishments with licenses, restaurants, and cafés, as well as an increase in the price of hotel lodging, are the main causes of the growth in hotel costs.
